Well, we can put the old computers as great servers, they consume less power.
Can’t you linuxers count?
Half the population is NOT 130,000… Try 150,000,000
@isthisnickvalid nevermind I just read your other post haha Well, what are those ANCIENT PCs good for anyways? They probably don’t even have a dial-up modem :S I don’t think this video refers to 15 year old computers…
@isthisnickvalid Ah, BTW, Ubuntu is getting heavier who the hell knows why, I stopped using it since Hardy Heron, I think its because of all the unnecessary things it installs and runs by default and how they focused more on how pretty it looks rather than how smooth it runs, only good thing about it its that plugging in new hardware (printers, webcams, etc) is rarely a pain in the butt as it sometimes is in other distros. Other than that, as soon as you can get over that distro
No hate <3
@isthisnickvalid Ubuntu sucks, only good for the newcomers. DSL? If you have a Pentium II with 64mb of RAM then sure, go for it lol But who can’t afford 512mb of RAM nowadays? OpenBox will run great with even less, XFCE will be just fine with that amount of RAM, and GNOME and KDE, just to be safe, add an extra 128mb of RAM and you’re ready to go, processor? My sis’ PC is a Pentium 4 with 512MB of RAM and it runs great on XFCE.
PD: I am using GNOME, never go over 500MB of RAM or 11% of CPU.
@Hypogripho Haven´t tried but looks like DSL.
@Hypogripho I have tried Xubuntu and LXDE and they´re good. Unfortunately they don´t work with less than 128MB of RAM and many of my old computers have 32, 46 and 64. Damn Small LInux and Puppy Linux are the only ones that work for me, and the latter is better I believe.
@isthisnickvalid …or even Slitaz???
@isthisnickvalid do you prove Xubuntu or LXDE??
The only problem with this is that Damn Small Linux is not something that the average user wants to run….
Linux won´t make old computers work magically faster, etc. In fact, in my old computers Windows 98 and XP works faster than the new Linux distros (like the lastest version of Ubuntu, etc.)
In [1]: 130000 * 365

how is 130,000 a day 1/2 the population of the US?
Otherwise awesome video.
So linux is only for old hardware ???
I don’t think so…
But nice vid
Congratualtions!! this was great!!
Nice!!!
@librano I would prefer MS questioning.
Like saying “Should we trust companies to put stuff in our computers that we don’t know about?” or “We should use Open Standards to prevent Vendor Lock-in” (like doing homework with the trial version of word) instead of the Freetard way by saying “Microsoft and Apple evil and they’re poising our computers by locking us in their platform”.
Yesss!! As we’re approaching the end of the competition some really good submissions are coming in… This one is awesome… no MS bashing… thats for 2 yr olds… And it dwells on some real benefit to the end user… and a hot topic nowadays, the environment… Very well played! +10 for you!
not a bad video other than the fact that 130,000 is horribly inaccurate. the population is over 300 million. i do support the fact that linux is great for making old computers usable again. it can add another several years to them
Good video about how Linux can help cut back on e-waste.
130,000 is not half the population of the U.S.
thats genius!
