First Solar (Nasdaq:FSLR) announced its Q1 earnings yesterday and posted its second-ever loss.

	As reported yesterday, the company appointed Jim Hughes as new CEO, and as reported last month, First Solar idled lines in Malaysia, closed down its German factory, and fired 30 percent of its workforce, or about 2,000 employees.

	The quarter's loss was $ 449.4 million on $ 497.1 million of revenue versus net income of $ 116 million for the same quarter last year.

	The company unveiled a five-year plan focused on emerging markets in the Sun Belt with a goal to ship 2.6 to 3.0 gigawatts at system prices, enabling a levelized cost of energy (LCOE) of $ 0.10 to $ 0.14 per kilowatt-hour. The stock is down and trading at close to 52-week lows:

	The once high-flying thin-film solar firm had 2,520 megawatts of production capacity at the end of the fourth quarter, and anticipates producing 1,500 to 1,800 megawatts this year.

	Analysts are all over the map on the quarter's results and hopes for the company. Here's a sampling of analyst reactions:

	“Closure of the German operation is indicative of permanent change in Europe,” according to Rob Stone of Cowen & Co. in a May 1 research note. “We expect sizable charges for capacity adjustments to overwhelm operating results.” Stone calls a Neutral rating on the shares.

	Hari Chandra of Auriga calls the stock a Buy with a $ 53.00 price target. Chandra notes that revenue guidance remained intact at $ 3.5 billion to $ 3.8 billion and that the "business model is well cushioned — investor cynicism needs to change: We see First Solar's existing 2.7GW (AC) project pipeline providing it with sufficient earnings cushion/flexibility to navigate the current industry dislocation, and believe investor focus on module dynamics is increasingly irrelevant to First Solar, and more so as it moves into a non-subsidized utility-scale solar power project paradigm. Utility-scale solar offers cost, scale, and efficiency advantages and delivers a need based solution in several key geographies of the world."

	Chandra adds that "First Solar's transition to non-subsidized markets rests on delivering solar power at $ 0.10 to $ 0.14/kWh based on system costs of $ 1.40 to $ 1.60 per watt by 2016, so solar can be a compelling value proposition without any subsidies."

	Sanjay Shesthra of Lazard writes that "bifurcation is in fact starting to unfold in the sector with leading players delivering profitable performance and strong cash flow in the current unprecedented industry downturn." Shesthra has a $ 50 price target.

	Aaron Chew of Maxim has a Sell rating on the stock and a price target of $ 9, saying, "Even amidst low expectations, Q1 results missed by a wide margin." He added, "With module ASPs down (12 percent) to ~$ 0.86 per watt and module cost per watt flat at $ 0.73, gross margin (x-warranty charges) of 23 percent trailed the Street at 26 percent." FSLR has net debt (x-restricted cash) for the first time at $ 115M.

	Canaccord Genuity's analyst Jonathan Dorsheimer maintained his Hold rating on the company and lowered his price target to $ 20 from $ 22. One of his concerns was "the latest warranty expenses relating to a prior 'manufacturing excursion' raises the question as to whether these improvements were too good to be true and if future problems from its break-neck pace of innovation may surface down the road.” He added, “With the maturing of the traditional markets, First Solar is hoping emerging countries will provide it with necessary growth. Given the company’s scale, these projects will have to individually be quite large. Aside from the clear difficulties in simply making PV (photovoltaic) economics work in what will likely be unsubsidized markets, we question the readiness of these markets for potential hundred-million-dollar deployments.”

	Barclays Capital writes, "Though First Solar appears to be taking the necessary initial steps in attempting to optimize the company's operations, it is difficult to look past the numerous fundamental challenges facing the company. We believe management will have a difficult time easing a majority of investor concerns when it reveals its 3-year plan during its 1Q results tomorrow. In our view, while its pipeline provides some level of cash support, there are simply too many unknown variables to justify a floor valuation at this juncture." Barclays suggests a per-share rate in the $ 18-$ 20 range, although it notes there "are too many unknowns to call a floor."

	Baird reiterates its Neutral rating with a $ 25 price target, saying, "We are positive on its cost-reduction efforts and strategy of identifying partners to move into new markets, but at this point, there is still limited visibility into the origin of FSLR's new pipeline."

	The Hedge Zone writes, "The sheer magnitude of First Solar's rise and fall has been monumental. At $ 18 a share, it would need to gain well over 1,000 percent to reach its '08 high of $ 311. We do not necessarily call that upside, but there does exist some potential for outsized gains from current levels should things change positively in the industry," adding "Yet, we think First Solar, through its painful restructuring away from subsidy-driven markets, is actually better positioned than most in the industry to survive and profit once we see a reversal of current trends. Of course, those trends may not reverse over the short term, which would mean more pain for shareholders. In that case, however, we believe First Solar may still be a takeover candidate, given its discounted price relative to book value."

Green tea in a bottle, powder, and capsules! It seems like overnight the new sensation is how it is associated with weight loss. If you are like some people you may be skeptical of this latest trend, and rightfully so. How many times have you been sold on an ancient formula that did nothing for you or worse yet was actually bad for you? Just about, everyone has fallen into the marketing hype once or more. This time look into the claims of the marketers before you place your hard-earned money on the line.

Evidence of Green Tea and Weight Loss Connection

While it is true that many people of Asian descent are small thin people and green tea is produced in Asia, however is that enough to draw the conclusion that tea and weight loss go hand in hand? Not necessarily, but it is not a bad place to start.

Nevertheless, you are probably more interested in some cold facts than loose connections. Fair enough, let us examine some of the claims of it has on weight loss and see if there is any substantial proof to back them up.

Metabolism

Merchants are touting the idea that green tea gives a boost to the metabolism. That is it increases the number of calories you burn without you doing any exercise. While that claim may sound fantastic, some research shows it could be true.

In a study in published in the Journal of Clinical Nutrition it was found that metabolic rate was increased for individuals that received a tea extract. Japanese women who received the concentrate experienced a 10% increase in energy.

Fat Loss

A rise in metabolism is all good and well but what about the claims that it will actually help you lose fat? One possible way that it affects weight loss is in blood sugar stabilization. After you eat the pancreas releases insulin to regulate sugar levels. Sharp spikes in insulin results in fat storage. The catchins in green tea work to regulate blood sugar and therefore decrease insulin release and in turn fat storage.

Appetite

In addition to all the benefits discussed above is appetite suppression. Researchers at the University of Chicago found that rats injected with the extract consumed 60% less food than they did had before. This is probably another effect of the blood sugar leveling ability of green tea.

Conclusion

Apparently, from the many studies that have been done, some of which were talked about here, there is evidence that green tea and weight loss go hand in hand. There are many areas affecting weight that green tea has shown promise.

Realistically though do not expect to drink green tea on top of a 4000 calorie diet and expect to lose weight. In fact, while there are many benefits of green tea when it comes to weight loss you should never rely totally on one substance for all your dieting needs. Green tea added to a sensible diet and moderate exercise is your best plan for speedy weight loss.

Quite a simple question I thought, worthy of a simple answer so I thought. Well yes it should be but in todays market but the sheer choice of tea is much bigger and for the inexperienced buyer perhaps the best place to start would be a specialist tea seller or a good deli where you can get the right advice about green tea itself.

It’s hardly surprising that the knowledge we posses about the benefit to our health from drinking tea has been around since the ancient Chinese first discovered tea leaves and started cultivating it commercially. They too recognized this plants unique properties that helped alleviate and treat a multitude of conditions. That situation has not changed and many of us today have re-aquainted ourselves with green tea extract benefits.

Let’s just touch upon just one of these benefits here and hopefully after this you can do some of your own research simply and just as easily as I did. Well, there’s been a lot said and written about green tea and weight loss for one. The whole weight-loss arena is quite controversial and full of claims and counter claims, too many to probably cover here.

Some claims attached to it though are that it has an important antioxidant ingredient which acts upon our metabolic rate. This essentially means how quickly our bodies burn calories our body gets from the food we eat. Reports suggest that by drinking green tea our metabolic rate increases substantially, thereby burning calories at a much faster rate, which in turn will shed those unwanted pounds that bit quicker.

Even so, the often quoted advice of eating a balanced diet backed up by some daily exercise remains, like taking a walk. As a side note I also found an excellent, naturally derived nutritional supplement that contains this all important green tea extract. Some of us can’t always brew a fresh cup of tea as it’s not always practical, because of the way we work or live. This way I could still manage to derive those health benefits safely, knowing I was taking a step in the right direction. What’s stopping you from doing the same?

The effects of green tea have long been associated with weight loss. That notion has only gained even more ground over the years as scientists and doctors discover more amazing facts of green tea and how it can benefit us. Back in 2004, the green tea diet first became renowned globally when it was mentioned on the award winning Oprah television show.

Dr Nigel Perricone, highly popular author of various numerous health and dieting books, had a guest appearance on Oprah’s show. It was then that he introduced the world to the countless advantages and health benefits of green tea – weight loss, anti-aging, increased metabolism, higher fat oxidation, etc.

He had wrote in his book, “The Perricone Prescription”, that if we replaced coffee with green tea instead, we could lose up to 10 pounds in six weeks. That statement went on to create such a hype that health and weight enthusiasts started to take notice of the much underestimated benefits of it.

Oprah has also been reported to say that green tea is very much a part of her diet. The Green Tea Diet has helped her attain her weight loss and dieting goals, a problem that has been bothering Oprah for a very long time, as her faithful fans would testify. Other than that, it has also done her health and well-being a world of good.

Some other facts of the Green Tea Diet:

* Cancer Prevention

* Anti-aging

* Increased metabolism

* Increased fat oxidation

* Appetite suppressant

* Caffeine substitute for coffee, minus the calories

While the benefits are aplenty, adopting the green tea diet is by no means the magic formula for instant weight loss. It would not help at all, if you are going to indulge on junk food and stick to your 5000 calories a day diet. It is important to bear in mind that a healthy and balanced diet is still the benchmark.

So what is the optimal amount of green tea to consume in order enjoy the health benefits? Experts have varying opinions, but the general consensus is 3 – 5 cups per day. That would be equivalent to burning an extra 70 calories per day, or 7 pounds per year. However, if you find that 3 – 5 cups per day is too much, tea extract, tea pills or a tea patch are equally viable alternatives.

I had heard about green tea pills and weight loss but it was not until recently that I dedicated some time to find out what all the fuss was about. It seems that numerous bits of research and long term studies have shown it to be of benefit to anyone on a weight loss regime.

In one study, with all other factors being equal, when it was taken as a dietary supplement it was shown to have resulted in a decrease in body fat of the study participants. The clue to why this should be so is in some of the compounds and substances found in green tea itself. We know its rich in potent antioxidants, some much more than even vitamin C and one in particular known as catechin.

This substance has the ability to make our metabolic rate rise at some point after taking the green tea pill. So, as a very rough and ready example if you burn 100 calories climbing some stairs, the effect of the pill may make you burn say, 120 calories when doing exactly the same thing.

The other thing to try and remember is that some bodily movement is still required, so maybe it’s not what you want to hear if you’re a dedicated couch potato!

Whatever burns up the fat a bit quicker has to be worthy of a closer look. It’s a naturally derived product but care needs to taken to ensure that the green tea pills you eventually buy have a high potency and are from a quality producer. Whilst you could probably derive a similar benefit by drinking green tea, some of us might thinks it’s a hassle that way.

Rather interestingly it’s now even possible to combine the weight loss or health benefits of green tea pills within one overall daily nutritional supplement or pill. Surely then the easiest way to not forgetting to take several different pills by just having the one!

Supplements containing green tea extracts are a completely natural way of reducing weight with very little risk of any side effects. There are many benefits associated with green tea. The Chinese have known about its medicinal properties since ancient times, however the western world is only just opening up to the benefits of taking green tea.

Weight loss pills or diet pills are all the rage at the moment. Everybody wants to look the best they possibly can and in order to do this everybody wants to be thin! Many weight loss pills contain green tea extracts. Green tea is a natural source of antioxidants. Green tea is useful in reducing cholesterol, and it also helps to reduce the blood sugar level after a meal. It does also help to reduce weight.

Although green tea does help in weight loss, you do however need to be very patient in order to observe the results. Keep in mind that weight loss does not occur overnight, even when you are using nutritional supplements. Since green tea does not have any harmful side effects associated with it, you might want to try out some green tea weight loss supplements. You can search for fat burning pills that contain up to 70-80% green tea extracts.

Fat burning pills including green tea weight loss supplements increase the metabolic activity of your body cells. This consequently increases the amount of fuel that your body consumes. The body’s fuel is calories, the higher the metabolism, the faster these are burned. Green tea extracts are also used to treat poor digestion and constipation, and also helps to fight against the free radicals in the body, the negative by-products created by normal bodily processes. Green tea supplements are rich in EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate) which is not only a mouthful, it’s an antioxidant and protects the body against any possible digestive problems. It is also helpful in cancer prevention and lowering cholesterol levels.

Green tea supplements are available in the form of tablets or pills. The advantage of green tea supplement over other fat burning pills is that it does not increase the heart rate of consumers. Many weight loss pills have the side effect of causing the patients heart rate to rise, causing a problem for certain groups of people with heart conditions. People belonging to any age group can use green tea to treat any medical complaints without any concern about its side effects.

Are you trying to lose weight and become healthier? Do you find it harder and harder to shed those unwanted pounds? If you answered yes, you are not alone in your struggles. Hundreds of people just like you are having problems with weight loss. Read on to discover a drink that will enhance your weight loss and make you healthier.

Green tea has been around for centuries and the health benefits of green tea have been known for centuries. Green tea can literally be considered a wonder drink. The reason for this is that green tea contains polyphenols. Polyphenols are best known for their anti-oxidant properties. Anti-oxidants are important for fighting off free radicals that can do cell damage in our bodies. But green tea has one very important element not found in other drinks. This element is called catechins.

Catechins are abundant in green tea. They have antioxidant ability. But more importantly they are also known to be an anti carcinogenic. Catechins can fight off the cells that cause cancer in your body.

They are also known to have anti-inflammatory properties. What this could mean to you is that green tea can help with arthritis pain, and other types of joint pain. Unlike pain killers and other anti-inflammatory drugs, green tea is safe to drink and should cause no ill side effects.

We have looked at the health benefits of green tea, but where does weight loss with green tea enter the picture? The catechins in green tea have been found to have an thermogenic effect that triggers the body to burn fat.

Studies have shown that individuals who drank green tea on a regular basis lost a significant amount of body fat and weight compared to a control group who did not drink green tea.

So if you are trying to lose weight and to get healthy, consider replacing your coffee with a warm cup of green tea in the mornings. Replace your sugary sodas with a bottle of green tea during the day. Find a good weight loss diet and stick to it. Get some exercise and you will find that the pounds will start to melt away. It’s not magic, it’s just green tea!
