We can work out to perfect our golf putts by practicing more often. And where else is a more suitable place than in the comforts of home-or the backyard, to be precise. How about converting it into a nice backyard putting green?

Sure, its ever golf enthusiasts dream to have their own putting green and to tell the truth, it’s not as hard as it would seem. Simply make that plan for your very own putting green and then do it! Having your own putting green is a simple project that anyone can do and before you know it you will be putting away in the comfort of your very own home. Who knows, you might even take a few strokes off your game and that’s worth a little effort, right?

We begin with the site and layout. Analyze our place. Is there heavy traffic outside? Do we need to raise the fence up a bit using mesh wire? Often, all it takes is putt control to remedy the possibility of the golf ball going too far elsewhere. After all, we won’t be doing full swings on our backyard putting green. Putt is merely making the ball roll into the hole.

Then we start to clean up. Get rid of poor soil, rocks, lumps, etc. that would hinder the making of a flat and level backyard putting green and growing quality grass. Use a pick and a shovel.

Start laying good soil about an inch thick. Rake it evenly across the ground. We may opt for a bed of sand first before putting the clean soil. Also seriously consider a good drainage. Then, the top soil should be perfectly fine textured and clean soil-not even a speck of dirt found. Contour the backyard putting green to our preference, remembering also that soil settles over time.

Then we come to the irrigation system. This is a sensitive matter that needs expert advice. Get an expert on the matter for supervision or else make sure that we understand backyard putting green maintenance. A tip here is to water the grass at the same hour daily. Quality grass is sensitive.

Remember, also that care for grass on a backyard putting green and care for grass on our front lawn are two very different things. They have different mowing cycles and use different mowers, too. The same with their chemical treatments. It’s best to get help from a backyard putting green expert.

Supervision of the putting green is important. We have to know the peculiar needs of the grass type we have placed in our backyard putting green. We have to know its mowing cycles and the kind of tools appropriate for handling the putting green. We should have all the needed equipments for putting green maintenance.

But when we have our backyard putting green already functional its enjoyment will more than outweigh the necessary maintenance work. Just the sight and feel of a backyard putting green are enough for total satisfaction-not to mention the convenient putting practice it affords.

Just because they?re pros doesn?t mean they don?t need practice. And like most of us, what professional golfers usually need to practice most is their short game. After all, landing the ball on the green won?t get the win without the perfect putt. That?s why more than 20 pro golfers depend on Southwest Greens artificial grass ? backyard putting greens and indoor putting greens installed in their own homes to make putting practice as convenient as possible. Since anyone who wants to putt like a pro needs to practice like one, many golfers at every skill level are incorporating Southwest Greens into their homes, and you can be among them.

Having your own golf greens means little if they?re not Southwest Greens ? putting greens made of the finest materials on the market today, customized to each individual?s space and skill level, and installed by experts who have been designing and constructing at-home golf greens for years.

Made of fine synthetic materials, Southwest Greens play like the real thing. And if there?s anyone who should be able to attest to that, it?s a professional who has played on the finest golf courses all over the world. PGA champion Vijay Singh says his Southwest Greens ?perform like a tour a green.? And fellow PGA champ Jim Furyk agrees, saying of his Southwest Greens artificial grass that he was ?surprised just how true the ball rolls and reacts to chip and pitch shots.?

Of course, every golfer?s game is different, as is their home. That?s why Southwest Greens custom-designs its backyard putting greens and indoor putting greens to the golfer?s preferences and specifications.

Experts in their field, Southwest Greens has spent many years perfecting the art and science of designing, constructing and installing at-home golf greens. That?s why pro golfers endorse their designs, and countless other golfers at every skill level agree ? they wouldn?t want to practice their putting on anything else. Plus, there?s no squeezing in putting practice sessions away from home. And no watering, mowing and maintaining your backyard putting green. You?ll save time and money ? just like the pros ? while learning to play like one on the finest artificial grass golf greens in the world.

What Every Golfer Should Know About Home Putting Greens

How do you say goodbye to 3 and 4 putts? Practice, practice,
practice. The key to improving your short game lies in putting
practice. But where?

You can practice conveniently on your own home putting green and
it may even increase the value of your home. If you’re thinking
about installing a putting green, there are several factors to
take into consideration.

Will your putting green be portable?

Roll out greens come in many sizes. Popular sizes are 2′ x 6′,
3′ x 12′ to 6′ x 15′. Some feature a regulation cup, while
others have a smaller cup than regulation size, which will hone
your targetting. Some feature a ball return.

Will you install your green inside or outside?

Indoors, there are small practice greens, rollout greens and
larger indoor greens. Large indoor greens can be as large as 12′
x 30′. Outdoor greens can be as large as you want.

How much do you want to spend?

Roll-out greens can be found in a wide range of prices from $20
to $300. Larger indoor greens can cost as much as $700. When you
start looking at outdoor putting greens, you are talking about
costs per square foot for all of the materials – the green
material and the base layers.

What material will your green be made of?

Indoor greens are synthetic of course. When you’re considering
outdoor putting greens, you have a choice of materials. Your
choice is natural grass or an artificial turf.

At first glance, you may think all-natural grass might be best.
Think again though. If you choose grass, you will need to spend
time maintaining the green. The question is, would you rather be
mowing, watering, feeding and weeding OR putting? Since most
golfers choose putting, let’s talk about artificial greens.

Artificial outdoor putting greens

With an artificial putting green, maintenance is minimal which
means more time to putt. The synthetic fibers are manufactured
to resist fading and matting.

There are two popular UV-treated materials: polypropylene turf
and nylon turf. Nylon turf is easier to maintain than
polyropylene turf. The fibers spring back so your ball has a
true roll to the cup. Nylon turf is also denser than
polypropylene turf.

Polypropylene turf needs sand fill to keep the fibers upright.
During installation, sand is spread across the top of the
polypropylene surface and brushed into the turf with a broom.
Since the sand can wear away, from time to time, you’ll need to
add more sand.

Outdoor putting greens also require a base of stone or concrete.
The cups are concreted into place. As for drainage, synthetic
turfs drain off the turf, not through it. Drainage needs to be
provided.

How fast will your outdoor green be?

Another decision you’ll make is regarding green speed. Stimp
measures how fast the green is. You can have your green speed
matched to your local courses or to a championship course. In
general, adding more sand to your synthetic green makes it
faster.

Will you Do-it-Yourself?

You can buy a putting green kit to install yourself. Many come
with video instructions. Depending on the size and design, you
may need help in installing the green.

Once your new putting green is installed, you can enjoy hours of
putting practice and improve your golf game. For a putting green

Synthetic grass is making quite an impression across America these days. You only need to Google reports on the number of high schools and colleges that are installing artificial turfs on their football and baseball fields to know that the stuff is pretty popular. Of course, the reason it’s popular is primarily to do with cost. Artificial turf is much more affordable than natural grass, not only when it comes to installation, but, perhaps even more importantly, when it comes to maintenance and use.

Imagine, if you will, a team of burly football players out practicing on a chill fall morning. They’re all thundering about on the grass, slipping and sliding about, kicking up the grass as they kick up the ball, tackle, and the like. They have spiked shoes that churn up the grass.

Then there are the golfers on the 18-hole course on a Sunday morning. They may be enjoying a friendly game, but they’re still taking swipe after swipe at the ground, hacking up the grass and the sand with their seven irons. Even the green is under attack with a steady onslaught of balls smashing down from 200 yards away.

Natural grass needs a lot of work to stay trim and fresh. Particularly on sports fields (football fields, baseball fields, tennis courses, and golf courses to name but a few), it gets pretty bruised up without regular work. It needs watering, mowing, trimming. Someone also needs to treat it with pesticides and then (and they apparently make a tradition of this in polo) someone needs to put the tufts of grass back into place.

Our point, though, is that grass has to put up with a lot of wear and tear if it is going to be used for the surface of a sports field. Not only does it not survive the usage very well, it actually requires a lot of time, money, and energy when used as the basis for a sporting activity.

If you think about it, the high maintenance required for grass is one of the reasons many people don’t use their backyards all that often. It’s also one of the reasons why most golfing enthusiasts don’t have a mini-putting green in their backyard. It’s at least the reason why the most dedicated golfers don’t find themselves outside on a regular basis, practicing their swing or their putting. Natural grass just doesn’t hold up.

Artificial grass, on the other hand, is not only durable, it is easy to maintain and easy to install. As more and more people are discovering, artificial grass works wonders as a surface for sports grounds. Not only does it survive with minimal maintenance for years (sometimes as many as fifteen years, even with heavy use), it has also been shown to reduce injuries and facilitate more regular practice and game play since it can be used in all weathers (it doesn’t get flooded or frozen provided the right drainage system is in place).

At National Greens, we specialize in providing our clients with a whole range of turf types for all sorts of types of projects. We specialize in providing turf for golf courses, putting greens, and driving ranges, however, and we’ve also taken to helping golf enthusiasts install miniature putting greens in their homes and back yards at extremely competitive prices.

Installation takes less than thirty minutes, in some cases, and you can almost always begin enjoying your artificial turf right away, which is not the case for natural grass. You don’t have to worry about hiring a gardener to maintain your artificial turf and you have no need to worry about how you’re going to manage to store up water to keep your grass hydrated through the summer (with artificial grass, you don’t have to contribute to the summer water shortage in your area since the grass doesn’t need watering at all).

You can have your very own putting green installed in your backyard or take the time to work on your golf swing even on a regular lawn. You won’t have to worry about hacking the lawn to bits when you’re swinging your club or even when you’re playing football with your friends.

Your kids will be perfectly safe as well, thanks to the soft, durable surface underneath artificial grass textures. They can bound about as much as they like and you won’t have to worry about them falling and hurting themselves.
